ABU DHABI – It's not often that UFC CEO Dana White is praising MMA judges, but UFC 321 was one of those rare occasions.
Alexander Volkov may be next in line for whoever is the heavyweight champion after UFC 321, coming away with a close, debatable split decision victory over
Tom Aspinall vs. Ciryl Gane ended disastrously, but at least the inconclusive ending sets the stage for an immediate rematch. For four-plus minutes, Gane overdelivered against the undisputed champ, but an errant eyepoke brought UFC 321's main event to an unceremonious end.
In pursuit of challenging either Aspinall or Gane, Jailton Almeida and Alexander Volkov shared the cage on the UFC 321 main card. Volkov beat Almeida via split decision, with the judges not rewarding the Brazilian for his control-heavy and low-activity strategy in Abu Dhabi.
