Following the Nationals' decision to designate Nathaniel Lowe for assignment, the veteran first baseman is reportedly finalizing a deal to join the Red Sox, according to ESPN's MLB insider Jeff Passan.
Lowe was a Gold Glover and a Silver Slugger for his previous team before the Nats, the Texas Rangers. With the Nats, he’s regressed a bit, slashing .216/.292/.373/.665 with 16 home runs and 17 doubles. While it seems like his hitting is down, it looked like he was beginning to figure it out, hitting a grand slam in his last game with Washington.
The Red Sox could still use an upgrade at first base, and a potential option could suddenly find himself available as a free agent.
