An inmate was found unresponsive in their cell at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Branden Stitt said. The Wichita Fire Department arrived at 8:55 a.m. and pronounced the inmate deceased, he said.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office has identified the inmate who died at the adult detention facility Wednesday morning as 24-year-old Daitrez J. Birch.

Upon arrival, firefighters and EMS personnel found a 61-year-old man in a facility paint booth, wearing a ventilator mask and not breathing. Life-saving measures were attempted but were unsuccessful. The man was pronounced dead at 12:28 p.m. On Tuesday, he was identified as Rocky Baldwin of Wichita.
