FOX Weather Hurricane Specialist Bryan Norcross provides his exclusive analysis tracking Hurricane Melissa as it heads towards the Bahamas and then Bermuda. Norcross says this historic hurricane had near record breaking winds when it crossed Jamaica resulting in high storm surge and flooding.

Melissa began affecting the southeastern Bahamas on Wednesday, according to the National Hurricane Center in Miami. Authorities in the Bahamas were evacuating dozens of people from the archipelago’s southeast corner ahead of Melissa’s arrival as a Category 1 storm.

Melissa is an “extremely dangerous” Category 3 hurricane as it closes in on Cuba after the storm made a historic landfall in Jamaica as one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes in history. Follow for live updates.

Hurricane Melissa is barreling northeast toward the Bahamas, after leaving a trail of destruction across Jamaica and the eastern side of Cuba.

A cut-off low sitting over the Tennessee Valley brought clouds and scattered showers to the southern half of Indiana Wednesday. Light rain fell along I-70, with little to no rain farther north.

Hurricane Melissa is currently a Category 1 storm with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph as it's "starting to accelerate northeastward over the Bahamas," the National Hurricane Center said.
