China Responds to Trump's 'Big Power' Tariff Threat
In the run up to the election Trump, who described tariffs as "the most beautiful word in the dictionary," vowed hikes as high as 60 percent on Chinese goods, saying this would not only protect domestic industries but serve as critical tax revenue. Economists have pointed out such a move would raise costs for American consumers.

Trump has announced plans for tariffs on China, Canada and Mexico since taking office, but many other countries worldwide are also bracing for similar measures. It was Trump's latest trade threat against China, the world's second-largest economy after the US, and Washington's biggest geopolitical rival, according to Al Jazeera TV channel.
