Before anything gets to the governor’s desk, each House bill has to be considered by the Senate and vice versa. All of it has to be wrapped up by the time the session ends Feb. 22.

Tuesday was crossover in Virginia’s legislature, the last day the chambers can consider their own legislation. From Wednesday on, the House of Delegates can only consider Senate bills and vice versa.

Virginia Democrats offered up their own proposal for tax cuts to residents in the commonwealth after Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R-VA) proposed relief that included phasing out the car tax. The Democratic proposals from both the state Senate and House of Delegates claim to provide $977.

The Democratic-led Virginia Senate and House of Delegates appropriations committees each presented state budget plans that include onetime tax rebates to all taxpayers.
