The armadillo walks on the soles of the hind feet and on the tips of the front claws. They usually weigh between 2 and 3.5 pounds and are 6 to 11 inches in length (from nose to tail).
The invasion The armadillo has been found in South America for 55 million years, but only one species, the nine-banded armadillo, has made it to the United States. The animal arrived in Texas in 1849.
