Only three of Gaston County's local elections will have a contested primary, according to the results from candidate filing, which finished Dec. 19.

A large residential fire broke out Sunday evening at a property in Gaston County, North Carolina, identified in public records as being owned by a company managed by NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin, with records also indicating that his parents reside at the location.

The operation took place between Friday, Nov. 28, and Friday, Dec. 19, and targeted thefts at well-known retail locations in Gastonia.

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Two people were hospitalized in a fire at a Gaston County home belonging to the parents of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.

A woman was killed Dec. 29 when she was hit by a train in Bessemer City. The fatal collision happened at about 10:50 a.m. in the area of N.C. 161 and Willow Lane. According to police, the Norfolk Southern freight train was traveling eastboung when the woman crossed the tracks and was struck and killed.

The parents of NASCAR driver and team co-owner Denny Hamlin were victims of the large house fire in Stanley Sunday night, and his father died from his injuries, Gaston County officials confirmed Monday.
