We don’t officially know the reason for Cavill’s departure, but this one seems most likely. On Saturday, October 29, 2022, Cavill announced that he would be stepping down as Geralt of Rivia after The Witcher Season 3. Instead, Liam Hemsworth would be taking up the swords of the White Wolf.
The Witcher is coming back for Season 4 and the main actor change from Henry Cavill to Liam Hemsworth isn't the only big change.
Cavill is a well-known fanboy of The Witcher books and games, and he often said he wanted the series to stay faithful to Andrzej Sapkowski’s source material. It was rumored that he left due to creative differences, though he never confirmed or denied the chatter.
It marks a new era on the show. Other new additions to the cast include Laurence Fishburne as Regis. Other actors joining the fourth season include Sharlto Copley, James Purefoy, Danny Woodburn, Linden Porco, Eve Ridley and Clive Russell.
As The Witcher moves into its fourth season, it prepares to introduce Liam Hemsworth as its new Geralt of Rivia following Henry Cavill’s exit. Showrunner Lauren Schmidt-Hissrich recently discussed how Hemsworth’s interpretation will differ from Cavill’s version.
