The area has received more than 3 inches of rain since Sunday, according to data from Bellingham International Airport.

As of 7 a.m. Friday, the northbound interstate was closed between North Lake Samish Drive to Fairhaven Parkway, according to the agency. There is no estimated time for when lanes may reopen.

WSDOT said two slides struck northbound I-5 near mileposts 248 and 249. One of the slides is fully blocking the highway.
