Winter Storm Watch has been issued for late Saturday night through Sunday evening for parts of the Red River Valley. Snow and blowing snow. Winds could gust 40-50 mph. Potential for blizzard conditions.
Just as Blizzard Cassie moves out of the region, another storm is moving in, likely bringing dangerous conditions.
The next cold front is moving into the area with a low pressure system that is leading to blustery conditions. We will notice a drop in temperatures between today and Saturday with snow chances mixed in and strong winds leading to the possibility of blizzard like conditions from time to time in the area.
A blizzard is a couple of giant steps above a winter storm. According to the National Weather Service, a storm officially qualifies as a blizzard when winds reach or exceed 35 mph and when the visibility drops to only a quarter mile or less. These conditions need to stay active for at least 3 hours.
Bands of light snow continue to move across Iowa on this Friday with wind gusts close to 45 MPH. There is enough instability to create a snow squall at times in parts of the state until 9 PM. The best chance exists in the northern half of Iowa.

The National Weather Service issued a snow squall warning which will be in effect till 5:45 pm; the warning is for Johnson, Jackson, Miami and Cass counties.
A blizzard warning is in effect and no-travel is advised in parts of western Minnesota on Saturday as light snow and strong winds create whiteout conditions on the roads.
