BEIJING, Dec 29 (Reuters) - China's military will conduct live fire exercises around Taiwan on Tuesday, state news agency Xinhua reported on Monday, with a graphic demarcatating five zones surrounding the island that will be under sea and air space restrictions.
Taiwan was hit by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake on Sunday (local time) as locals in the capital, Taipei, reported intense tremors. The quake struck near Yilan County, with the Japan Meteorological Agency issuing a tsunami advisory for Miyakojima and the Yaeyama regions.
Taiwan President William Lai Ching-te and Premier Cho Jung-tai face impeachment proceedings filed by opposition party leaders after a Friday vote.
This was the strongest earthquake in Taiwan since April 2024, when several buildings collapsed and 20 people were killed.
