The team announced it was parting ways with the two-time Stanley Cup winning coach just over a week after the Penguins missed out on the playoffs for a third straight season.

On Monday, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Mike Sullivan was fired as their head coach. Sullivan led the Pens to back-to-back Stanley Cup wins in 2016 and 2017. He has a record of 409-255-89 as the bench boss in Pittsburgh for the last 10 years.

The decision ends a fantastic run by Sullivan, who was hired by the franchise during the 2015-16 season after it fired Mike Johnston. In Sullivan's first year with the team, the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. They did it again the following year, giving Sullivan two championships in his first two seasons with the franchise.
