A 59-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday evening by state police after a manhunt in west Michigan, authorities said. Don Albert Stapel Jr. was sought in a wooded area near the 7500 block of Fox Road in Mears when he was found in an outbuilding, Michigan State Police Sixth District said.
Police believe the men knew each other and the shooting escalated from a dispute at a nearby club. No arrests have been made, and police did not identify either of the men involved. Police said the rappers shot an officer in the face, neck, and chest with a toy gun filled with gel pellets. The officer wasn't injured.

The shooting happened around 10:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, near Perkins and 23rd streets in Saginaw. Police said five people were shot while at a large gathering in the street. Officers found one victim who had been shot and hit by a car lying in the street. The individual is in critical condition at a nearby hospital.
