Grading Cooper Flagg's NBA debut

The Dallas Mavericks started their star rookie Cooper Flagg at the point guard position in his debut game in the league. Safe to say, it did not work. Not only were the Mavs blown out 92-125 at home by the San Antonio Spurs, but Flagg's highly anticipated first game turned out to be a dud.
The Embraer 145 jet, operated by regional carrier CommuteAir, came to a sudden stop when it rolled beyond the runway edge and into a bed of compressible materials, an emergency stopping safety system known as EMAS. None of the 53 people on board were hurt.

Mavericks' Cooper Flagg's overlooked stat shows there's no reason to sound the alarm yet
If there was anyone with a highly anticipated rookie debut in a long time, it is undoubtedly Cooper Flagg, one of the youngest players ever to debut in NBA history. It was clear during the summer that head coach Jason Kidd planned to push him into some uncomfortable positions.
Cooper Flagg soared toward the rim for an alley-oop attempt that could have been a spectacular start, but the ball rimmed out.
In a night where a few top rookies had outstanding debuts (hello, VJ Edgecombe), Cooper Flagg was not one of them. He was scoreless in the first half and only attempted two shots before finally being more aggressive in the third quarter. He'd finish with 10 points and 10 rebounds on 4/13 shooting, but I'll discuss him more in a minute.
