At least 80 miners became trapped in the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, with rescue efforts underway and no injuries or deaths reported, according to government officials.

Estebanía is located in the Azua Province of the Dominican Republic in the southeast part of the province, about 64 miles, or 103 km from the capital of Santo Domingo. The earthquake comes more than two months after the area experienced a 5.7 magnitude quake that struck on August 5.

Authorities in the Dominican Republic said they have confiscated cocaine transported by a speedboat that was destroyed recently by the U.S. Navy.

The Dominican government, via the Ministry of Finance and Economy, successfully issued US$1.6 billion in sovereign bonds on international markets with a 10-year maturity and a yield of 5.875%, fully covering its external financing needs for fiscal year 2025.
