An emboldened President Donald Trump is increasingly using his bully pulpit to stamp his imprint on Washington, DC — pushing the bounds of executive power to reshape a city that once snubbed him.

Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky says he has spoken with US President Donald Trump, as well as other world leaders, following Trump's meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska. Zelensky has also confirmed that he will meet with Trump in Washington on Monday.

The U.S. president invited Zelenskiy to Washington after rolling out the red carpet for Vladimir Putin, Kyiv's arch foe, at a summit in Alaska that shocked many in Ukraine, where hundreds of thousands have died since Russia's 2022 invasion.

It was a striking welcome for a leader who has been a global pariah since his 2022 invasion of Ukraine — and one who Trump has been increasingly frustrated with in recent months because of his resistance to Trump’s peacemaking efforts.
