At 14 years old, Guccio Gucci left Florence and moved to London to work as a bellboy at the Savoy Hotel. He carried luggage and served wealthy guests, earning just a few dollars a week to help support his family. While doing his job, he noticed something important. The guests all carried beautiful luggage and fine leather bags. That stayed with him. In the early 1900s, Guccio returned to Florence and worked in a small leather goods shop.
