When Black Muslims Ruled Spain From 711 to 1492 CE, the Moors — Black African Muslims, including Berbers and Sub-Saharan Africans — conquered and transformed Spain. While Europe was locked in the Dark Ages, the Moors brought the brilliance of Africa and Islam to the West. They introduced advanced architecture, mathematics, astronomy, medicine, and engineering. Nestled away in South Yorkshire lies a British wildlife gem; RSPB Old Moor. The landscape at RSPB Old Moor may be bustling full of life now, but it wasn’t always this way. A group of miners who were keen birders helped establish the reserve and used it as a place to come to during breaks between shifts in the local coal mines.
