These small but mighty herbivores spend all summer gathering plant materials and storing them under rock enclosures. This allows them to endure the harsh climate of the mountains year-round without having to hibernate or go to lower elevations. Highly sensitive to temperatures above 78 degrees Fahrenheit, pikas are seen
