For decades, the statue of Ramses II stood at the heart of Cairo’s Ramses Square, surrounded by traffic, dust, and noise. Thousands of people passed by every day without noticing this treasure of ancient Egypt. In 2006, Egypt decided to move it to the Grand Egyptian Museum near the pyramids of Giza.
