Our Eastern Box Turtles have came out of brumation and they are hungry! So we are making sure that they have lots of good things to eat in their outdoor habitat. This morning they all got some yummy nightcrawlers 🪱 These turtles are omnivorous and will eat almost anything, including berries, insects, roots, flowers, eggs, and amphibians. They reach maturity at 10 to 20 years old and can live to be more than 100 years old! Please let them be if seen unhurt in the wild. If missing eyes, limbs or

It’s time to make our Box Turtles starve! But it’s not as bad as it sounds. In the winter, Box Turtles experience a brumation period where their activity levels and metabolism will drop alongside the temperatures of the region. In order to prevent excess food from sitting in the turtles’ stomachs undigested and rotting, we have to keep food away from them for a few weeks until we bring them indoors to cool fully.
